During the post-war era, America began changing into a fast growing mobile society. A need for moving and storage was in great demand. In 1956, the brothers became agents for United Van Lines, a relatively new carrier in the moving industry to meet the national growing demand. In 1964, the brothers moved to their current location on North Lincoln Avenue near the newly constructed Interstate 74. Within four years, the company’s growth was so great, they doubled their warehouse size to 16,000 sq. ft. In the 1970’s, Orin’s son Orin III, and daughter-in-law, Kathy, along with Gerald’s sons, Gerald Jr. and Jim joined the firm in various positions. Learning from the ground up, the sons absorbed the work ethic set forth by their fathers. During this time Hutchcraft became well-known for its quality, service and facilities. Top notch equipment and personnel made it a model agency for United Van Lines, which was now becoming the largest and fastest growing van line in America. Today, the fleet consists of over 30 vehicles. Specialized equipment such as climate controlled trailers, and trucks with heavy duty lifts and gates have allowed Hutchcraft Van Service to come a long way since the modified Hudson in 1946. |
